Deandre Mcdaniel does not make the grade
Future Clemson Star Deandre Mcdaniel will have to wait
another year to play for the Tigers

DeAndre McDaniel, a safety out of Godby High School in Tallahassee, Fla., said Wednesday he will not enroll this fall because of failure to meet NCAA academic qualifying standards. He said he received his latest ACT score Tuesday and fell two points shy of achieving the necessary combination of test score and grade-point average to qualify.

By failing to enroll, McDaniel can sign with any school for its 2007 recruiting class. But he plans to attend a prep school — probably Fork Union Academy in Virginia, which the Tigers have used as a feeder program for years — during the fall, then enroll at Clemson in late December.

Wilkerson is still awaiting the word
Gaffney linebacker Julius Wilkerson committed to the Tigers last June but did not sign in February in case he did not qualify.

Wilkerson said he has met the necessary academic qualifications, but Clemson’s coaches want to make sure his transcript is approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse before signing him.
