No surprise really...

You would assume they had a good idea of what to offer from the NCAA. Kinda surprised Gilmore went before Ingram or Jeffrey, I guess he did well in the NFL camp. Game of thrones is getting good, I can't wait to see what happens so I am probably going to buy the books. Arkansas, how stupid is all I can say. They must want to tear down what petrino left, I don't get it.

Carolina Sanctions Handed Down

Luckily it wasn't too bad. The NCAA excepted Carolina's self imposed sanctions. We came out pretty good in the deal considering how bad it could have been. Glad that's over. Wheeeew lol..

Posting from my new iPhone

Just a test lol

I guess you could say...

Game of Thrones has started slow. But you can tell that they just have so much that is important to get out of the way before it really gets going. I just watched the last episode and you can tell its really about to get rolling now. I think the show is making sure it does not skip or minimize significant parts of the books. They also know they have as much time as they want to do it because this show gets renewed as soon as the first season airs, just like Spartacus.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13

I'm still watching Prison Break on and off. I would be watching it a lot more but I broke down and bought the new Tiger Woods and I'm addicted just like every year when I buy it lol. I am on the 2nd season of Prison Break though. It's a good show.

I'm letting Game of Thrones build up on my DVR so I can watch a bunch of the episodes at once. I've heard mixed reviews on it. Some say it's starting off great and some say it's really slow. It started slow last season though and ended up being epic. Won't know till I watch it I guess.

I finally watched...

the season ending episode of Spartacus. Me and Hiro were saving it because we hate to see the season end. But we broke down and watched it. They really know how to end a season, wow. What a season and what an ending.

The Borgias are back, I am also watching Game of Thrones of course. Game of Thrones is a different kind of show from Spartacus. But its good. Still got a couple of episodes of Eastbound left, we are pretty much holding on to them right now.

Still spending allot of time with college and writing programs. I am actually liking it allot.

Gary Patterson is a no brainer...

IMO. To win at Arkansas you have to recruit and compete with the lesser talent from Texas. Gary Patterson already does that, recruits quite well at TCU already. He might even be able to steal one or two from the Longhorns.

Just my opinion on those....

Kirby Smart is a terrible choice. Nick Saban runs that defence and here is a guy who is used to getting the best talent out there. In fact even the highly rated players who do not perform are ran off to bring in more. We know Saban is a great coach with the best of the best talent. I am not convinced that even Saban would do well at Arkansas much less Kirby Smart. Its a risk to even hire Smart as a defensive coordinator IMO.

Guz Malzhan, I don't really know what happened. But something happened when he left Auburn, some even say he was not calling the plays at the end. But who knows, red flags IMO. Those red flags are likely to become public immediately if he gets hired as a head coach, especially considering Arkansas in the same division as Auburn. Unless it simply that he was not a good offensive coordinator Chizik would finally spill the beans.

Skip Holtz? Good choice, nothing bad to say about him really. But unless you are trying to save money, why in the world would you pick him over Gary Patterson?

I've heard a few names

Kirby Smart, Bama DC, Gus Malzahn, Skip Holtz, just to name a few. I think anyone of these would be reasonable.

I would like...

To see Bowden back also. In this interview (just this week) he says he has no interest in coaching:

http://www.yahoosportsradio.com/shows/tim-brando/the-bowden-family-legacy-in-college-football-21430/

I know that don't mean he would not. Franklin or whatever his name is at Vanderbilt has been mentioned for the Arkansas job. I do think the Vanderbuilt job would be a good one for Bowden if so. Expectations are much lower and I think he actually would up recruiting there and keep them at a 7 or 8 win team (mostly 7) which is as good there and what they expect. Arkansas is going to need to go after a Gary Patterson type and to get him for example they will need every penny of that SEC money. What he is going to ask for would make him maybe the highest paid college coach out there or he is not moving.

I see what you mean

I guess it's tough to win at any school in the SEC and especially the SEC west as of late. I don't think it makes the Arkansas job less attractive though. It is still a SEC school with SEC pay.

Also...

Since Petrino has been coach there, Arkansas has only signing 4 or 5 players per year from the state of Arkansas.

Before Arkansas...

Petrino had a good run at Louisville, a Big East team. Then a failure in the NFL, no big deal but a great coach? But even if you could rightly see he was a great coach, everyone would agree at the time he could not be trusted to be loyal to a school. In other words as soon as a better job came open. But really it was timing, the Arkansas job came open. Then they got real serious about football and gave him allot of money. Everything just lined up perfectly and before the big contract no one thought he would stay at Arkansas.

We see how far Louisville dropped when he left. He just won 10 games and dominated everyone except LSU and Alabama. I am not sure how a job could be tougher when you play Alabama and LSU every year. His stock really went up while he was the coach at Arkansas, not before IMO. But in the long run, the main reason he would not have been considered a great coach at the time to hire is the same reason he got fired. He was just not trustworthy, just came out different than we expected and more embarrassing. But pure entertainment for me.

Good points

Petrino is a very good coach and I would put him in the top 5 best coaches in the country for sure. Which leads me to this, since we both agree that Petrino is a great coach why then did he take the Arky job himself? Surely he could have found a better one if Arky is difficult to win there. I just don't think it's that tough to win at Arky. Hell even Houston Nutt had some success there. I think the state of Arkansas has very underrated talent. I'll just say I'm glad to get them off of our permanent schedule lol.

It might not be the right job for Tommy Bowden, don't get me wrong. He may not be interested and Arky may not be interested in him. I don't think it is because of difficulty to win at Arky though. I kind of wish Tommy would end up there or somewhere in the south east. I'd like to see him get back into coaching again.

But going back to what you said...

I think Petrino is one of the best college coaches out there, I am talking number 1 or 2 in the country. I don't think you can expect to get the same results with another coach there. Obviously there was probably even more to that story. I don't think Bowden gets serious consideration, nor do I think he should take that job. But I didn't think Petrino would get fired either.

Wow, I was about to comment...

looked on the front page of Arkansas Rivals and bam, he is fired. lol

Glad you had a good birthday

Yea I don't think that they are going to fire Petrino either. You're also right about Tommy not even wanting the job. He turned it down in 2008 for a reason. I don't know so much about Arky being a tough place to win though. It may not look like they recruit well but they always end up with extraordinary talent. More times than not it shows on the field. At least in the last few years it has.

Tommy may not have wanted to live in Arkansas, who the hell does? Like you said, I don't think Petrino will be fired anyway.

Thanks bro...

I had a pretty good one.

First off, I have my doubts Arkansas was really going to hire Bowden. Also I don't think Petrino is going anywhere. Would Bowden even be interested is another question. He has a good, easy job now and Arkansas would be a tough place to win. Much tougher than Clemson. I don't know why he would take that job.

Happy birthday bro

Just wanted to tell you happy birthday. Also, another interesting thought..

Arkansas went after Tommy Bowden in 2008. Now with all the turmoil with Petrino could Tommy to Arky be a possibility again?

LOL

I don't blame you bro..

I was thinking if I were you I would plant every one of them. I bet they will do good next to the fence or something. I never thought about growing odd tomatoes like that. I am going to try it for sure, that was a great idea.

Prison Break was good, the third season was not that bad. But I could not even finish the 4th season. Still have not watch the end of Spartacus or Eastbound. I have watched both episodes of game of thrones, I am behind on Touch as well. School has got my full attention, but that's actually good. I am enjoying it.

Oh and Bobby Petrino, lol.

Finally got all my tomato plants in the ground

All 37 of them lol. Should have a bunch of brown tomatoes lol.

I finally started watching a show. Prison break, I think you had told me about it before. It's really good so far. A lot of people say that the 1st season is really good, 2nd season is ok, and the 3rd is the worst of any show out there. I guess I'll be the judge. Also Game of Thrones has started back up. Got the first episode recorded, haven't watched it yet. I might even wait till prison break is done before I do.

They are looking real good...

I am pretty sure I have ordered from Seedrack before and they had real good seeds. I have just been busy, school, a Ball this weekend, work.. Just never seems to end. Watched spartacus but that's about it. Got a midterm tomorrow after exactly two classes, lol. Glad it's open book. Keep me posted on the tomatoes, can't wait to see them when they are grown.
